The Washington Capitals have officially signed left-winger Eriks Mateiko to a three-year entry-level contract, which carries a salary cap hit of $889,167. The 18-year-old was selected 80th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.

During the 2023-24 season with the St. John Sea Dogs in the QMJHL, Mateiko excelled, scoring 23 goals and accumulating 43 points in 49 games. He made his NHL preseason debut on September 22 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
